3rd Dan - Akarui-No-Chishiki-Kan - Jiu Jitsu Ireland
In the early 1980’s Ed Hick had done about six months of Kenpo Karate with a local instructor in the Dún Laoghaire area. However due to back problems that arose from a Gaelic Football injury, he was forced to give it up. Over six years passed before he started his Jiu-Jitsu training in late October 1990. It was suggested to him by Geoff O’ Toole a friend of long standing (over fifteen years at that time).
The Martial Arts bug had bitten back in the 80’s and was always of interest. When his Jiu Jitsu career started it involved travelling in car pools from Dún Laoghaire to Ashbourne, Co. Meath twice a week.
By mid December he was awarded Red Belt or 10th Kyu. Since then he’s never looked back.
Having taken two sabbaticals to concentrate on Alpinism, and latterly on a Marketing Diploma, he was awarded his 1st Dan Black Belt in August 1999. Currently a serving 3rd Dan, Ed is enjoying immensely the club’s move and new start in the Boylan Centre.
