12/10/2006 To all Martial Artists:
It is a sad day, as I have been informed that our dear friend in America - Professor Kenneth Penland (10th Degree Black Belt - Shorinji Ryu Jujutsu Association) passed away late on Sunday 8th Oct 2006. For all those students and friends that knew Ken, he was a fantastic man with an amazing degree of knowledge, not only about martial Arts but life in general. He was a most interesting man with a great sense of humour and always gave his time selflessly to others. Ken was our mentor over sea's and we will miss him and remember him forever. He has giving inspiration and determination to all our students to achieve greater things for themselves through their martial Arts. Ken Peland had a gift - and he shared it. Thank you. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this difficult time. Domo arigato gozaimas'ta Shihan Ken Byrne 6th Dan, Jiu Jitsu Ireland

08/08/2006 First Aid Course:
All attendees at the recent first aid course received their certificates from The Irish Red Cross. The course was run by the ever buoyant Tim and ably assisted (indeed ably rebuked...) by Michelle. The course which was a follow on to the one taken by all senior grades in 2003 took place in the Boylan Centre, Dún Laoghaire, on July 12th 2006. In accordance with Jiu-Jitsu Ireland policy, all instructors in the Dún Laoghaire Dojo are yet again qualified first aiders. Although this is a policy of our club and sporting body, it is nonetheless one of the more worthwhile extra curricular activities anyone can undertake. Despite the gravity of the topic, we must thank Tim for his light and friendly approach, making the course enjoyable and entertaining as well as useful. But in the best possible way we all hope it was a waste of time, and we never have to use any of it!

06/07/2006 Visit from our hanshi:
A very welcome visit from our hanshi (Mr. J. Lupton 10th Dan) on Wednesday 28th June along with some of the students from Julianstown Dojo. Everyone is always most welcome to join in the fun any Wednesday. Thanks again for all your support. A first Aid refresher course is to take place next Wednesday 12th July at the Boylan Centre. make sure you all bring your recent cert for updating. See you there.

23/06/2006 New Members:
New members have now started to find our little hide away club in Dun Laoire. Its all starting to happen and recently we had a very welcome visit from Shihan Geoff O Toole from Rush. The class was exciting and fast moving as the additional talent of Shihan O Toole made the nights training varied and interesting. Basic techniques were examined and explored which made for interesting body shapes and one hell of a good laugh. So thanks again to Shihan O Toole, hope to see you on a more regular basis. A first Aid refresher course is to take place next Wednesday 12th July at the Boylan Centre. make sure you all bring your recent cert for updating. See you there.

24/05/2006 New web site:
As you can see this is our new website for the South Dublin Division of Jiu Jitsu Ireland. We are all very proud of our new site and hope that as time passes it will be of interest to everyone visiting. We have recently opened a new Club in the Boylan Centre in Dun Laoire Co. Dublin. Training nights are every Wednesday from 8pm to 10pm and everyone is welcome. This Club has moved from the Presentation College Glasthule as the school is now for sale and is closing down. Jiu Jitsu Ireland runs classes in the Traditional Jiu Jitsu style, which has been recognised throughout the world. We have many accreditations from Japan, European and USA bodies. Classes are thought on a one to one basis and there are 3 Black Belt instructors waiting to part with all kinds of knowledge to you in the Boylan Centre. As this is a new Venue and classes are still very small it allows each student very close contact with their instructor. Each Class cost €8.00 for a 2 hour lesson. Every new student is expected to watch the first class to ensure they have a true understanding of what methods are used in teaching, then a payment of €60.00 covers the next six classes. Once the first six weeks probation period is completed to everyone satisfaction full membership can be applied for.
